Freedom to Teach History Conference in Florida

From September 28 through October 1, 2023, Flagler College is hosting the conference The Freedom to Teach: Confronting Complex Themes in Contested Spaces in St. Augustine, Florida.

The conference seeks to bring history and civics educators from a variety of different backgrounds to share their perspectives on and experiences with teaching difficult topics with the objective of building bridges between these different constituencies, sharing best practices, outlining common tasks, and developing solutions to teaching complicated themes that are based on our shared educational mission.

Co-sponsored by Florida Humanities; Gilder Lehrman Center for the Study of Slavery, Resistance, and Abolition at the MacMillan Center at Yale University; The Institute for Common Power; National Council for History Education; and the National Humanities Center. Event partners include the National Endowment for the Humanities, NCSS, PEN America, and the Zinn Education Project.
