The year 2014 marks the 50th anniversary of 1964 Freedom Summer, part of a campaign to bring voting rights to all citizens of Mississippi. Freedom Summer included voter registration, the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party, Freedom Schools, the Medical Committee for Human Rights (MCHR), the Free Southern Theater, and more.
To commemorate the anniversary and strengthen organizing efforts today, veterans of Freedom Summer have planned a powerful week of workshops, presentations, and more to be held throughout Mississippi in June.
There will be a national convening at Tougaloo College from June 25-29 and a youth congress starting June 23. It is not too late to register. Visit the Mississippi Freedom Summer 50th website.
