Boston University’s Anti-War Coalition memorialized Howard Zinn’s legacy on April 2, 2013 with a student production of “BU Speaks: A Tribute to Howard Zinn,” based on The People Speak. All proceeds were donated to the Zinn Education Project, raising a total of $500.
This production marked the second tribute to Howard Zinn and the voices and speeches of everyday people purely organized by students to inspire political engagement throughout BU’s campus.
“Howard Zinn was a professor here, but in addition, he was a huge activist and a huge inspiration to many of the students. He inspired them to protest against South African apartheid, to really just not be a cog in the machine, to really stand up and resist,” Kristen Martin, the director of the Anti-War Coalition, explained. “Many of us who’ve read his books and read about his presence here on campus also want to push forward that spirit of resistance that he embodied.”
We thank Boston University’s Anti-War Coalition for their generosity, and all the organizers and performers who contributed to this production.
