Bill Bigelow, Rethinking Schools curriculum editor and Zinn Education Project co-director, wrote a letter to the editor of The New York Times in response to their August 26, 2017, article about statues and Columbus.

Bigelow is co-editor of the popular teaching guide, Rethinking Columbus: The Next 500 Years.
In a 2015 article, “It Is Time to Abolish Columbus Day,” Bigelow wrote,
Once again this year many schools will pause to commemorate Christopher Columbus. Given everything we know about who Columbus was and what he launched in the Americas, this needs to stop.
