Rachel Corrie was a student at Evergreen College and traveled to the Gaza Strip in Palestine. As a volunteer member of the Olympia Movement for Justice and Peace she wrote many moving letters describing the struggle against the U.S.-backed occupation of Palestinian lands. Corrie was killed trying to block the destruction of a Palestinian home on March 16, 2003. Read more at the Rachel Corrie Foundation for Peace and Justice.

The letter was also read by Alice Walker, November 11, 2006, at the Berkeley Community Theatre. Both excerpts are from Voices of a People’s History of the United States edited by Howard Zinn and Anthony Arnove.
